Recommended 2015 – Introductory Games

As it is approaching Christmas I am jumping on the listicle bandwagon and have put together a “definitive” list of recommended tabletop games that you can buy for loved ones, ask for as presents or you know just buy for yourself as a “you deserve this” purchase.

These recommendations are broken up into several posts each one covering a different category of games. Each list includes a varied selection of games for you to buy and enjoy.

Last week I covered Casual & Family Games this week I am covering Introductory Games.

The criteria for these lists is: If I own it, I can include it. So if I have missed out on your favourite game it probably means that I do not own it…..yet.

Introductory Games is a selection of games for people who are just getting into the hobby or want a solid tabletop experience that is not overly complex. I find these games are also great to play with people of the older generations who only know Monopoly, Risk, Uno and their ilk. You know the types, your grandparent who looks at the box for Ticket to Ride and scoffs that it is not Ludo or a chess set. I guarantee that if you sit them down and explain how to play one of these games you will have some fun!

As it is approaching Christmas I thought it would be a good idea to jump on the listicle bandwagon and put together a “definitive” list of recommended tabletop games that you can buy for loved ones, ask for as presents or you know just buy for yourself as a “you deserve this” purchase.

I’m going to break things up into several posts covering different categories of games. In the hope of making life easy for all types of gamers wether you are new to the hobby or not. Each category has five games and I have tried my best to make the selections varied. You can also use these lists as a good starting point to build out the core of your own games collection.

The criteria for this list is: If I own it, I can include it. So while I have played many other great games that are not included in this list I feel I cannot fully recommend them, mainly because I have only played them a couple of times at most. However I have played the games I own many times so I have a level of authority when it comes to recommending them.

Lets get the ball rolling with Casual & Family Games!

The Boardover – 4th November

Water Lane

Another week has gone that means I had some opportunities to play some mother trucking board games!

Wednesday night brought with it a mixed bag of gaming. It was another packed night for the members of Bishop’s Stortford Tabletop as we once again broke our most people in attendance record! Things seem to be really taking off for Wednesday Nights at Water Lane and it is great to see people bringing a good variety of games along. Sadly, I only managed to play two games on Wednesday, one that had potential but felt lacking, the other a personal favourite. Then there was Halloween which brought with it a lot of death, mayhem and zombies because there are always zombies!
